My first blog entries panned by the critics!

Wow! Everyone’s all mad. I apparently understated the huge importance of a “renowned” yet “humble” artist by praising his video. Then I offered an insufficiently nuanced account by joking about whether a country should be drunk or not. This blogging sure is “problematic.”

The commentators obviously do not enjoy the humor I am attempting to bring to the experience of confronting a challenging city. So the rest of today’s entry will be written without irony or colorful adjectives.

At the American Embassy, the Ambassador greeted the guests in front of a Christmas tree. She thanked everyone for coming and welcomed the artist representing the U.S. in the Cairo Biennial. She told the guests that her art collection reflected the theme of the Mississippi River, because of the Nile River. An Egyptian opera star sang Old Man River from the musical Show Boat, a song about a slave who is “tired of living and scared of dying.” That’s all I’m saying.

Can we at least still do romantic idealism? I hope so, cause I already posted my blog!
